Analytical and Native Concepts in Argentina’s Post-Conciliar Catholicism: The Case of “Liberationism”, “Popular Pastoral Theology”, and “Theology of the People”

“Liberationism”, a term derived from Liberation theology (LT), is an analytical concept used by religious historians and sociologists as generic designation for Latin American post-conciliar Catholicism. “Theology of the People” (TP) designates theological school created in Argentina during late 1960s Episcopal Pastoral Commission (COEPAL), although its members was not TP but “Popular theology” (TPp). Successive generations theologians developed new versions TPp (“popular piety theology”, “theology culture”, etc.). I call those diachronic variants TP, regard their synchronic representation. has been called “Argentine School Theology”, there are substantial differences between TL.
